'A third of Brits' will consider caravanning this summer

A third of all people in the UK are considering going on a caravanning holiday this summer, according to new research.

The latest survey from American Express has found that more people are taking their own vehicle on holiday, with 27 per cent of Brits considering a camping holiday and travelling there by car.

Many people are looking to camping, caravanning and motorhome holidays as a more environmentally-friendly option to travel.

They are also looking to reduce the stress involved with the long queues and lost baggage at airports.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, said: "Long working days mean that [Britons] don't want to waste more time than is necessary with long check-in times. Consequently the trend appears to be taking a return to family drive holidays."

People living in London are most likely to holiday in the UK, with 45 per cent of them taking the option.
