Caravan and camping breaks 'are popular'

An increasing number of holidaymakers are taking breaks in caravans, according to a new study.

Research carried out by insurance company Towergate Bakers found 65 per cent of the 2,000 participants were planning a holiday within the UK in the next year.

Of those questioned, 20 per cent named caravan breaks as their preferred choice, with 17 per cent nominating camping as the way they like to spend their holiday-time.

Paul Havenhand, marketing director at Towergate Bakers Insurance, claimed as well as the credit crunch, fond memories of previous holidays could be behind the results, with young families particularly keen on seaside and UK breaks.

He said: "Young parents often have nostalgic memories of their own childhood holidays and this combined with the economic downturn will create a boom in UK holidays in the year ahead."

Recently, it was claimed those within the caravan sector are set to benefit from extra training after a partnership between the Caravan Industry Training and SkillsActive was announced.ADNFCR-1431-ID-18818698-ADNFCR
