Caravan park expansion plans submitted

Plans for the expansion of a caravan park in the north-west were put before councillors today.
The South End Caravan Park, in Walney, is applying to add 100 extra pitches to its site, to accommodate static and touring caravans, reports the North-West Evening Mail.
Officials have hinted that the plans will be given the go ahead, but concerns remain over the location of the park in a sensitive ecological area.
Part of these issues may result in a ban on noisy machinery between October and March, so that nesting birds are not disturbed.
Phil Huck, regeneration director for Barrow borough council, told the newspaper: "The caravan site is recognised for its tourism potential and the extra touring caravan pitches should offer some contribution to the wider goal of encouraging tourism in the Furness peninsula."
He added that there had been an objection from the Campaign to Protect Rural England, but said that the plan "meets with the wider aspirations of the borough".
It was recently reported that caravan parks in Bognor's region have helped to bring tourism into the area.
