Caravan park rewarded for crime fighting initiative

An initiative between a caravan park and local residents in Fylde has been recognised with an award.

The park and the Fylde Community Safety Partnership won a problem orientated partnership award, which aims to reward partnerships to tackle specific issues.

Set up in response to the number of break-ins at ten caravan parks in the Little Eccleston area, the caravan watch scheme was named the best in Fylde.

The initiative received a special award, which was presented by Western Division's superintendent Richard Debicki.

He said at the ceremony: "These kind of partnerships are becoming more and more part of the daily routine of police work due to their effectiveness in dealing with difficult issues in a community."

Mr Debicki added that groups working together will have a "powerful influence" on other local agencies.

The initiative linked the different caravan sites to inform them on the break-ins and extra security procedures which needed to be taken.

It follows news that caravan crime across the UK has dropped by 70 per cent.
