Caravan shows moves from York to Pickering

One of the UK's biggest caravan shows is to be moved from York, to the Pickering Showground.

The Northern Motorcaravan Show, which last year attracted 13,000 visitors, has been moved by the show's bosses, reports the Press.

A multi-million pound drainage improvement scheme at York Racecourse has forced the move, as organisers say it would not make it feasible to hold the event there.

Planned for this year is the appearance of Des O'Connor, who will serenade the caravan and motorhome fans.

The rally, which is due to be held between September 19th and 22nd, is expected to attract around 4,000 caravans, which have previously been blamed for causing traffic gridlock around the show.

Maxine Shepherd from organisers Warners Group Publications, said: "The show will be as big as it has always been and there is the added benefit of being able to allow campers to stay for an extra day."

Another rally is planned for the summer, in south west Wales, which it is hoped will attract 150 motorhomes and will have a Welsh theme.
