Caravan supplier reports jump in sales

A caravan supplier has reported an increase in the number of people buying the vehicles in the past six months.

Discover Leisure said turnover of the firm grew by 412 per cent in the six months to the start of March, account for £51.8 million spent.

This is in comparison to £10.1 million in the previous quarter.

Part of the increase in sales is due to firm's buyout of another caravan firm, Barrons Holdings, with the remainder being due to increased marketing.

Trevor Park, chief executive of the company, said that sales had been slower due to the wet weather at the start of the year.

He added: "However, the seasonal upswing began in early May and sales in all areas improved considerably."

Haven Holidays reported yesterday that there had been an increase in interest for caravanning holidays, with the firm seeing a 30 per cent rise in the number looking for the getaway.
