Plans for a luxury hotel have been overturned by the owner in favour of a caravan park.
The site next to the Cumberland Lodge Racing and Leisure Stables was originally intended to be a four-star hotel, but the owner George Campbell has since decided he wants static caravans and holiday lodges on the site, reports the Whitehaven News.
His plans are for 100 facilities on the £2 million site near Workington, in Cumbria, but the emphasis will still be on luxury.
Mr Campbell told the newspaper: "I'm trying to keep it upmarket. It will be quality holiday lodges that would compliment Cumberland Lodge Racing and Leisure to the same standard."
Included in the plans are a 134-space car park, recycling centre, pond and new woodland.
Mr Campbell hopes it will draw more people to holiday in the area, who might otherwise choose to go to the Lakes, reports the newspaper.
Previous permission had been granted for an 86-bedroom hotel with a spa and health and beauty centre.
The state-of-the-art racing stables were opened in 2006 which Mr Campbell hoped would raise a future Derby winner, reports the Cumberland News.
