More people are considering spending their second holiday in the UK due to the credit crunch and concerns about the environment, according to an industry expert.
People may opt for holidays like caravanning and camping at home in the search for a low-cost trip away, said the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO).
A spokesperson for the company said that there is a "great scope" for holidays at home, with some families finding it less stressful as there is no need to fly.
"The weather is improving in the UK and people are deciding they'll take one [holiday] in the UK because it's possibly cheaper, there's less stress involved travelling to airports and they could possibly take the train," the spokesperson added.
It was added by the AITO that people will still take their large scale holiday aboard, but people taking more than one per year may opt for one in the UK.
Figures for the Caravan Club show that caravanning is now the most popular paid for holiday in the UK.
