Northampton is UK's 'caravan hotspot'

Northampton has been dubbed a city of caravan enthusiasts after its residents purchased 1,100 of the vehicles online last year.

According to figures released by internet auction site eBay, people living in the Northampton region spent £350,000 on second-hand caravans purchased online in the past 12 months, making the town the nation's caravan hotspot, reports the local Chronicle newspaper.

"The town can be credited with pioneering eco-friendly holidays, being Britain's number one spender on caravans," eBay spokesperson Julia Hutton-Potts told the news provider.

However, it is not just previously-owned caravans that Northampton's residents have been splashing out on, with local caravan salesman George Egner saying that showrooms still prove popular, adding the area is a real "caravan town".

Meanwhile, camping has recently been deemed "cool" again.

The editor of the Cool Camping guide book series, Jonathan Knight, claims the rise of luxury and camping has made it an increasingly popular option for holidaymakers.ADNFCR-1431-ID-18661449-ADNFCR
