Pubs hire car parks to caravanners

Pubs are entering into the caravan industry, by hiring their car parks out to motorhome users overnight.

One Newcastle pub landlord has set up a website to allow licensees to register their car parks for use by caravan or motor home owners, reports the Morning Advertiser.

Kevin Bird has so far taken £1,000 a week by renting the space out overnight for travelling motorhomes, at his pub in Burn.

"It is a great way to make use of your car park. I don't charge for people to stop over. The idea is they park up in the evening, come in to the pub for a meal and a drink, sleep in the van and go in the morning," he told the newspaper.

So far, 150 pubs have registered to be on the website, which can then be used by travellers coming to an area.

Mr Bird said that most of the pubs which have signed up are in rural locations, but that town pubs should consider the option, in order to create extra revenue.

The Good Pub Guide has recently launched a mobile service, which allows people to text a number and find the nearest pub to them and directions to it.
