Tyre checks important before travelling

Caravan owners heading away for this summer should check their tyre pressure before hitting the road.
Basic safety checks need to be done to the whole vehicle before taking it out on the road, especially if it has been stood still all winter.
A specialist firm, Protyre, states the pressure and tread depth of the tyres need to be checked as performance can be affected.
In addition, any tyres which are older than seven years need to changed, regardless of their condition.
It is not just the pressure on the caravan which needs to be checked, but also the tyres of the towing vehicle, as some manufacturers suggest a higher pressure in the rear wheels.
Caravan owners should be aware the UK law states the minimum depth for tyres is 1.6 mm across 75 per cent, although those going abroad should be aware European law states it should be across the whole width.
Etyres.co.uk said while most vehicles are fitted with 13-inch tyres, many are now using the 14-inch variety, to give more stability.
